Vice-Chair James Yu
gave a very enjoyable and brief welcoming speech.
City Councillor, Mr.
Raymond Louie, Mah Benevolent Society of Vancouver
Vice Chairman Paul Mah and Tse Clansman Association
of Vancouver vice President, Mr. Jason Tse and
former City Councillor, Mr. George Chow, gave warmth
greeting speeches to the Yee Fung Toy Society of
Canada members and guests, followed by Mr. Shui Chi
Yu, who read out all the congratulatory letters. MLA
Richard Lee also attended and gave his greetings.
110th Anniversary
Ceremony ended after Vice Chair Phillip Yu gave his
thank-you speech to attending guests.
Everyone enjoyed the afternoon buffet lunch, thanks
to YFT Welfare Committee vice Chair, Mr. Stephen
Yee, and his volunteers, who organized this year's
afternoon gala event.
Around 6pm, guests
start arriving for the evening reception. The stage
was decorated with flower baskets from the Seattle
Yee Family Association, the Mah Society, the Tse
Clansman Association and the Sunkist Flower Shop.
Our emcees for the evening banquet were Esther Yue,
and Kimberly Yee. The Lion dancing team from the
Mah's Athletic Club's helped us to celebrate
Year of the Horse. Thanks to the members of the YFT
Youth group and the Mah Athletic Club for their
wonderful performances.
Distinguished guests who attended
our Spring Banquet include Consul Zheng Xuan, from
The Consulate General of the People's Republic of
China in Vancouver; Hon. Alice Wong, M.P. for
Richmond and Minister of State for Seniors; Judge
William F. W. Yee, Provincial Court of British
Columbia; City Councillors Raymond Louie and Tony
Tang, Seattle YFT Family Association members, our
cousins from the Mah Society and the Tse Clansman
Association.
George Yee, and David Yee
emceed the Vancouver YFT Scholarship Awards. 24
outstanding students received scholarship awards
this year. There were two special Scholarship
prizes handed out this year, sponsored by Mrs.
Carla Yee, in commemoration of Joseph Yee, who
passed away last October.
Four students were from the Elementary level: Amanda
Yee, Megan Yu, Nikki Yu and Tammy Yu.
Nine students were from the
Secondary level: Cameron Yee, Jeffery Yu, Sara Yu,
Alec Yu, Natalie Yu, Wendy Yu, Carina Yee, Ashley
Yu and Christopher Yee.
Eleven were from University level:
Alvina Yee, Kimberly Yee, Nicholas Yee, Allison Yu,
Nicole Yu, Maurice Yu, Jackson Yu, Miranda Yu,
Elizabeth Yee, Kayla Yu and Polly Yu.
Congratulations!
Jaime Yee was awarded the
Joseph Pak Poy Yee Memorial Prize for outstanding
contribution to The Yee Fung Toy Society and And
the Chinatown Community.
Carina Yee was awarded the Joseph Pak Poy Yee
Memorial Prize for the Best Essay of The Yee Fung
Toy Society Essay Writing Contest.
Esther Yue and Phillip Yu emceed the entertainment
portion of the program. Guest singers include
Judge Bill Yee, Fred and Clara Yee from Seattle,
our Mah and Tse Cousins.
Modern dance routine was
performed by our Chairman's talented 8 years old
granddaughter, Hailey Yu.
This anniversary celebration
was a tremendous success! Thanks to the volunteers
and YFT board members who helped to organize this
annual event. Special thanks to our two emcees,
Esther Yue and Kimberly Yee for a job well done!
